Up and running in four steps.
- InstallIn WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip file and activate it.
- Get a keyOpen KnowScapes AI in the admin menu. No key yet? Request a free Community key right under the key field — it arrives by e-mail.
- Pick your ExpertPaste the key. The list of available Experts loads by itself and the first one is selected.
- Switch it onConfirm the data transfer, tick Show the chat widget and save. The launcher appears on your site.
Nothing happens before you act: after activation the plugin contacts no one and shows nothing until you have entered a key, chosen an Expert, confirmed the transfer and switched the widget on.

Privacy by design
Transparent for you and your visitors.
- No tracking. No cookies, no conversation log, no visitor identifiers, no telemetry, no CDN, no remote fonts.
- Consent first. No visitor message leaves your site until you confirm the transfer to the provider you selected.
- Privacy text included. Suggested wording for your privacy policy under Tools → Privacy.
- AI notice built in. Every chat tells visitors they are talking to an AI and that replies may contain mistakes, as the EU AI Act requires. You can reword it, not remove it.
- EU processing by default. With KnowScapes, replies are generated on our own servers in the EU unless you choose otherwise. Details in the service description.

What changed

Good to know.
Do I need a paid account anywhere?
No. A free KnowScapes Community key is enough to run the chat. If you prefer OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, you use your own key there and are billed by them.
Can my visitors see my API key?
No. The browser only ever talks to a REST route on your own site. The key is added on the server and never appears in any page, script or response.
Is any visitor data stored?
The plugin stores no conversations, sets no cookies and writes no visitor identifiers; a conversation exists only in the visitor’s browser. How long the provider you chose keeps transmitted messages is set by that provider’s terms — for KnowScapes, see the service description.
What happens when the free allowance is used up?
The assistant pauses until the next period and visitors see a short neutral notice. Nothing in the plugin is switched off, no setting is lost, and the chat resumes by itself. The current figures are on the Community limits page.
How do I update from an earlier version?
Upload the new zip under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and confirm replacing the installed version. Your settings and keys are kept. After updating to 2.3.0 the AI notice appears automatically; reword it under Appearance → AI notice if you like.
Where do I get help?
Write to support@knowscapes.com. If it is about a key, send only its first part — it looks like lrk_2f788404 — never the whole key.
